Farmers in Manyara region of Tanzania worry that the bunper harvest
won’t bring them economic gains. It’s reported that no buyers have made
tender for 7500 tons maize in Gerap and Cashee villages. Farmers worry
that once rain season comes, these grains will suffer losses in case of
no buyers and bad storage.
Farmers call on the government to look for buyers as soon as possible,
otherwise the grains and farmers will suffer great losses. Farmers had
expected the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) would purchase the
grains but their expectations had come to nothing. Many farmers worry
that they may go bankrupt.
However, NFRA recently expressed that they would start grain purchases to console farmers’ worries of bankruptcy.
